The 41st Annual Session of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee (TC) was held on 19-24 September in Chaing Mai, Thailand. The session discussed various aspects on future TC activities and directions and adopted the session report and the annual operating plan for 2009. Chief Researcher Katsuhito Miyake of ICHARM attended the meeting with other representatives from 12 TC member countries and served as chair of the Working Group on Hydrology (WGH).

The objective of TC is to develop and implement coordinated activities among the members and related sectors, such as meteorology, hydrology, and disaster prevention and preparedness, to reduce typhoon-related disasters in the TC regions. Now the TC is regarded as the most active among five tropical cyclone-related committees established worldwide in terms of the ongoing activities and willingness of coordination among relevant components to serve the TC objective.
