Retrieval Algorithms Using Satellite Microwave Radiometer, Radar
and IR Data

Participant(s)
from ICHARM:
Kazuhiko Fukami (Team Leader), Hironori Inomata (Researcher),
Yoshiki Shiraishi (Researcher)

Kazuhiko Fukami, team leader of the ICHARM Hydrologic Engineering
Research Team, and the GSMaP research team led by him attended
the workshop to present the use of satellite-based rainfall
maps. The GSMaP research team made a presentation on: (1) development
of the algorithm to calculate precipitation intensity using
precipitation observation data obtained from satellite onboard
equipment, such as microwave radiometers, precipitation radars,
and infrared radiometers; (2) research on the creation of high-temporal,
high-resolution global precipitation maps by analyzing data
from microwave radiometers and infrared radiometers based on
the above algorithm; and (3) research results on the evaluation
and practical application of the precipitation maps produced.
Fukami presented the "Development of Integrated Flood Analysis
System (IFAS) using satellite-based rainfall products with a
self-correction method," which contains a self-correction
algorithm without any ground-based rainfall.
