Program for Risk Information on Climate Change (SOUSEI program)

“Program for Risk Information on Climate Change (SOUSEI program)” is a research program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) which was implemented from FY2012 to FY2016.

In this project, ICHARM was mainly responsible for a research task named "Water-related disaster risk assessment and creation of adaptation information in Asia", targeting 5 major river basins in Asia. The task involved various steps such as statistical and dynamic downscaling of MRI-AGCM 3.2S, bias correction, statistical analysis of present and future climate, and assessment of flood and drought risk in the target river basins, which were those of Indus (Pakistan), Chao Phraya (Thailand), Solo (Indonesia), Mekong (Cambodia), and Pampanga (the Philippines).

The project ended in fiscal year 2016. The findings from ICHARM’s assignment were shared to each related government by following PPT reports.

ICHARM is determined to continue tackling climate change-related research by further utilizing big data for future climate models and by improving modelling technology for the assessment of future socio-economic changes and other purposes.
