Message; メッセージ:
Bangladesh receives huge volume of suspended sediment along with flood water from the upper riparian countries every year. Uneven distribution and deposition of suspended sediment cause river bed variation and corresponding channel changes along the river reach. River bank erosion leading to loss of valuable lands is widely pronounced river sediment induced natural disaster at many locations.
For proper response to such disasters, understanding of sediment dynamics is very important. Strong technical know-how, tuned up Numerical models and verification tools based on satellite image analysis comprise complete set to deal with mega sized rivers slashing through Bangladesh.
Estuary is composed of very fine sediment and faces complex interaction of river flow and tidal influence. New treatment based on entrainment of very fine particles to water and calculation of erosion term based on field verification might be useful tool for understanding erosion and deposition phenomena in estuary as well.
Main Research Topic(s); 主な研究内容:
  1. Complex interaction of flow and sediment movement in estuaries.
  2. Bank erosion in estuaries composed of very fine sediment.
  3. Tendency of morphology change in terms of sediment transport characteristics along the rivers.
