The overall goal of this program is to develop the trainee's capacity to practically manage problems and issues concerning water-related disasters in local levels and@to contribute forwards socio-economic and environmental improvements at regional and national levels in developing countries. Trainees are expected to become independent investigators in the areas of integrated flood disaster management, equipped with the most advanced technical and legal know-how to enhance the basic understanding of the challenges of flood risks. They should then be able to translate this knowledge back to practical water-related disaster reduction strategies including poverty reduction and the promotion of sustainable development at local, national and regional levels.

Objectives
To foster solution oriented practitioners with solid theoretical and engineering bases that can serve for planning and implementation of flood management within the framework of integrated river basin management at all levels from nations to localities.

Course characteristics

The course provides students with oppotunities to learn with
many practitioners in charge of disaster prevention in developing
countries and make networks with course alumni.

The course emphasizes development of problem-solving capability.
In addition, it focuses more on practical than theoretical aspects of disaster management.

The course is designed to help students enhance their capacities of
coming up with and propose solutions to problems they face in their home countries.


The course requires only one year for students to earn a Master’s degree.
